Abstract

In 1990, Nansen S/A – Precision Instruments started the production of electronic power meters, which, differently from the electric ones, minimize the possibility of fraud and loss for the distributors. The general objective of this research was to verify how the technological changes introduced at Nansen influenced the development of organizational, functional and individual competences. A qualitative-descriptive case study was carried out with the aim of collecting the necessary data. Eight employees in charge of the strategic functions were interviewed. The technological innovation introduced at Nansen triggered a number of organizational changes in all areas of the company. The new selective organizational competence identified was related to the commercial relationship with the clients. New organizational competences were developed, especially in the areas of sales and technical support. For the development of new individual competences, Nansen adopted a new practice of people management, focused, mainly, on the development of leadership skills and formal knowledge.
