Research on the returns to teaching qualification is still scarce in the Brazilian literature, especially about results that students achieve in standardized tests, such as the Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (Enem). Faced with this problem, the goal of the article was to analyze the influence of teacher quality on student performance in the Enem. To do so, we used the Multiple Linear Regression (MRL) method with a sample of the average scores of the objective test in the Enem per School 2019 from 385 campuses of Institutos Federais de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia (Ifets) and Centros Federais de Educação Tecnológica (Cefets) from across the country. The results indicate that teacher quality has a positive influence on student performance in the Enem. We found that the higher the degree of the faculty of a school, the better the performance of its students in the Enem. We conclude that the investment made by the Federal Government through training and remuneration policies in Ifets/Cefets is positive, since the return materializes in good grades for students in the Enem.
