Our theoretical essay debates the process of doctoral education in Management in Brazil and the challenges identified in this scenario from mid-2010 onward. We discuss evidence of the need to improve this educational process, considering the professional perspectives of graduates, and the alternative of expanding training skills at this level, therefore presenting the concept of 'full doctor'. In order to make this conception empirically viable, we suggest a six-competence model, which are intertwined in their nature: (i) theoretical knowledge; (ii) methodological knowledge; (iii) teaching practice; (iv) research practice; (v) written production; and, (vi) technical and professional competence. We contribute reflecting about the quality of doctorate education in Management, both professional and academic, in Brazil.
