Abstract

The real focus of this paper is on the continued education (postdoctoral degrees) of professors along the course of their professional trajectories. Research on this subject is still scarce and this paper therefore aims to investigate the profiles and current configuration of professors active in graduate management degree programs with CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel ) levels 5, 6 and 7 certification who have already completed their postdoctoral studies. The work developed by Castro, Porto and Júnior (2009) reveals that the dynamics of the National System of Science and Technology presents a certain dependency on updating and a growing need for readiness from professors undertaking research in Brazilian graduate courses. Faculty members holding at least one postdoctoral were identified in the descriptive research, conducted on data for the period from 2007 to 2009. The configuration was based on gender, year the postdoctoral was completed, if the institution is national or foreign; institution of origin of the postdoctoral and how long after the doctorate the postdoctoral was taken. Finally, a study agenda was outlined with the aim of continuing exploration on the theme.
