Rigor-Relevance Gap in the Scope of Professional Master Course

Rigor-relevance gap between academic–practitioner relationships is a constant dilemma in the academic scenario. Considering the postgraduate matter, this essay deals with the role of professional master course in order to present some issues related to avoid the mentioned gap. The article stresses the resistance by the academy in accepting the importance of practitioner aspects in the elaboration of alternative ways of research, especially in the professional master courses related to areas such as accounting and business. The interventionist research is discussed like an option to promote the development of practitioner ways of teaching and researching, considering the role of professional master programs, assuming that the empirical field promotes effective learning. The article propose that government departments such as CAPES should concentrate efforts in order to mitigate the rigor-relevance gap, as well as the dissemination of professional master research results, assuming the crucial role in marketing scenario, organizations and society.
