In a classic 1954 study, Mills (1975) called sociological imagination a quality of spirit essential in allowing individuals to overcome the false consciousness of their social positions despite their hectic daily lives. Inspired by Mills’ concept in of critical pedagogy studies and Critical
Management Studies, we propose the concept of administrative imagination: a skill required by directors that enables them to know, feel, think, learn and harbor hope for their historical conditions, social position, personal troubles and their civic participation in public social
structure issues. This article describes the use and results of a pedagogical practice based around this concept. In order to conduct this educational activity, a class of Business Administration graduate students are encouraged and guided to use photographic art, field research and the educational conceptual framework to analyze real situations from the
city in which they live. The results of this study show that this activity promoted administrative imagination by encouraging thought regarding the manager's commitment to society and his social role.
