The objective of the paper is to compare the differences in the preferences for social contact of students from Business Administration courses with those from other undergraduate programs in the Brazilian context. The preferences for social contact have been analyzed based on the motivations that lead to social contact, through three dimensions that represent social rewards desired by the people when establishing contacts with their peers: positive stimulus, attention and emotional support. In addition, the concept of preference for loneliness has also been used, which can be understood as the preference for the absence of social interaction. An exploratory-descriptive Survey Research was answered by 150 students of two Business Administration courses and other 153 students of the Social Work, Information Systems and Systems Analysis courses. The results show the differences and similarities between the
students over affiliation motivation and preference for solitude, and examine profiles of students grouped according to what motivates them to interact with others.
