The application of variable compensation methods such as profit sharing schemes is an enterprise measure that creates alternatives to engage employees, enabling a greater commitment to the organization’s outcome. The case of the Alabama hotel shows Maurício’s dilemma, in which he must decide the most appropriate way to employ variable remuneration, as there are conflicts among employees who feel wronged by the current assessment system. Thus, the present case study aimed: 1) to present variable compensation as a factor that makes it possible to generate greater commitment and productivity within a company; 2) to discuss the effectiveness of the distribution of profits considering the different positions and levels in the company; 3) to establish alternatives for rewarding employees instead of the service charge with the proposed distribution of hotel points.
