Abstract

Studies related to sustainable development have been evolving and with them the issues pertinent to the need for change in the individual’s attitude as the one responsible for the realization of this new form of development. To better understand this idea, education is understood as an important tool to set up a way of thinking that can provide the information required for raising awareness about the practices that should be developed, both in the initial educational years of the citizen-consumer, as the continuing education in the Higher Education Institutions (heis), in the forming of society. This article aims to examine, from this perspective, how sustainable development education has been addressed in Recife’s hei’s. An exploratory-descriptive study was conducted through qualitative, semi-structured interviews with representatives from the Administration course of the selected institutions. Based on thematic analysis to understand the subject, possible alternatives were presented in order to contribute to sustainable development education being present in many of the institutions’ curricular components.
